Curmudgeon

Call me a curmudgeon, but if you are going to post a link in the comments here, you need to give more than “great post” or “check out my blog” and the link. I know that getting your site/blog linked to by others is a good way to increase its ranking, but it is smarmy to put it out there without fully participating in the conversation wherever you are posting it.

So, I welcome comments and I am happy to have you put links to your site/blog in your comments, but you really need to comment. Talk about the issue at hand. Participate. Otherwise I will delete it.

  1. Nah…I get those too. These are from real photographers (I check) and most photogs don’t know how to produce automated content spam like that…thank heavens. 🙂 –L

  2. Oddly enough, when I’ve posted here, people often find their way to my site — probably to see how credible I am — even though I never posted a link.

  3. This goes both ways, Leslie. Here’s a case in point:

Earlier this year, I was an eager participant in what I thought was a community of photographers that had gathered around another blog. And I really liked what this particular blogger had to say about the business of photography.

My comments were not of the “Great post!” variety. Instead, I was trying to point other members of the community toward online resources that related to the topic and that I had found useful. Every one of those resources had been created by people who I know have excellent reputations.

Unfortunately, this particular blogger found my behavior to be bad, very bad indeed. In fact, he went so far as to accuse me of spamming him, because, as he put it, I was commenting on e-v-e-r-y post. That wasn’t true. I was a frequent commenter, but not an every post commenter.

So, I bailed out of that blog and never came back.

  4. “I agree with your thoughts and opinion on this matter. Keep up the many good writings.”

“You are so right. We are in complete agreement. Please keep sharing your ideas on these regards.”

    – See I can match the high quality of the auto-spam comments. Now please go check out my blog. – oh wait, did I forget the link…? Maybe I’ll just go have a cup of coffee instead, and save the comment spam for later. 🙂

  5. Curmudgeon? Is that what they are teaching you in law school at the moment, how to to effect the surly agressive and prickly attitude that truely intimidates your opposition?

Or is it the effects of not enough time to have the life you know you deserve and still keep up with the reading, the writing and the absorption of the concepts that are the real fruit of your education. As the son and brother of lawyers, I know that nothing you are studying have much relevance to what you will be actually DOING as a lawyer, but you need to know it cold.

Actually its hard to imagine you curmudgeony, maybe tiredly sarcastic, but never as dark and offputting as a real curmudgeon!

Is that enough filler for a gratuitous link to MY blog….(its the economy…)

    Hang in there!
