DPP spread CC misinformation

Ah, the irony in the name of the piece…

Do you have a subscription to DPP or Outdoor Photographer (same publisher)? I encourage you to cancel it or, at least, to write and complain about this piece http://www.digitalphotopro.com/gear/more-gear/misinformation-copyright-tech.html

So does this mean they think it’s okay for me to take an article from their magazine, publish it on my blog and take credit for it? As they say ” Myth: stolen ‘images’ are a bad thing”
Publicity is one thing – stealing is something completely different.
What a fantastic way to “take” art and music and use it to your hearts content with no regret or remorse. I don’t call that a better world or “meeting the ever-changing world of supply and demand”. I do agree, it is a different now that we are in the internet world, but that doesn’t mean we have to abandon the “old school ways” of doing business

  2. Paul Emberger Says:

    +1 to Keith’s comment. And:

Do we dare go to see our Doctor and leave with out paying? “Oh thanks Doc. I appreciate the visit, now that I know what’s wrong I’m going to self medicate, and not pay you for this visit. ”

You’re mechanic: “Oh, yeah. Thanks for fixing those brakes. See ya later.”

We wouldn’t dream of it! So why are artists 3rd class citizens. We work at what we create. If the average person, non artist, did not have the art that we (all artists) create they would go mad with out entertainment and information. This is absurd.

Yes, we are in changing times, but that does not mean that we now have no value.

The “Everything Free Society” is not sustainable.

I sent this to DPP editors.

I was appauled at your stand on image theft.
Digital Photo Pro advocating unauthorized use of copyrighted material?
I can’t take all that free publicity from stolen images to my grocery store or use it to upgrade my equipment to stay competitive.
DPP has moved to hack electronic pulp on my list.
Thanks for diluting the professional market.
    Professional you are not!

  4. Don Giannatti Says:

I tried to think of something pithy and witty to say, but the article is simply bullshit. Most dishonest, deceptive, and transparently stupid thing I have read in quite a while. Amazingly inept writing.

    Get tar. Get feathers.

  5. My Turn: DPP’s Article on FREE Images Examined | LIGHTING ESSENTIALS For Photographers Says:

[...] silliness, that I feel a “fisking” is in order. Leslie Burns at Burns Auto Parts has a neat little post about this, and there is a lot more on her site here. And be sure to read her take on CC in a several posts [...]
